                                  HEX APPEAL
                                  ÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍ
We promised you guys out there in the TCCINTRO that there would be
a demo coming from us in May/June. There were lots of rumours about
it and one could even read in the World Charts that "Cascada is
going to release a very good demo at the Computer Crossroad".
Unfortunately, we didn't, because (just like usual) we ran out of
time. After TCC we took a few months' break, and now, in the first
days of August we figured that perhaps finishing and releasing it
at the Assembly '93 party would be a good idea.
We cut a lot of effects, leaving just a short flow of routines to
increase the chances of making it in time. However, with 2 hours
left to make it run for the Asm'93 competition we were to tired to
finish it off. Now when the competition is over we could of course
just as well hold on to the demo a few weeks more and add a few
more routines, but we are so sick of this now so you'll have to do
with the demo as it looks at this point.
So here it is! It's not quite the same demo that we were supposed
to release at TCC but not many people saw the preview anyway so I
      guess it won't matter much.

It's not very long, not too groundbreaking but I believe and hope
that you will enjoy it. We thought it's time to take a break from
all these techno-soundtracks now and do something a little more
laid back. So here's Hex Appeal.

Hex Appeal is freeware and may be freely distributed while not
modified in any way. You are not under any circumstances allowed
to sell copies of it. Violations will be reported to federal law.

                                 Requirements
                                 ÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍ
The demo requires a i386© or better processor, VGA graphics and
preferrably a sound peripheral as a Gravis UltraSound, SoundBlaster
or a SoundPlayer D/A. We kept in mind that running the demo on a
i386© should be possible, at least with a fast graphics-card such
as the ET4000, but we recommend that you watch it on a i486©
machine. Our music system is able to use sampling-interpolation to
improve the sound quality radically. However, this requires twice
as much processor time, so if the demo doesn't run smoothly turn
the interpolation off or lower the sampling rate.

© = Or i80386/486 compatible such as the AMD and CYRIX.

                              ÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍ
Perhaps you feel that you'd like to contact us. Ok, do so. Just
realize that we are just young students with very little money and
very little time to answer letters. Therefor, if you want an answer
be sure to include Swedish stamps or an IRC check (you can buy
IRC's at the post office in almost every country in the world). And
even if you include an IRC you can only be 90% sure of an answer.
I still get letters from people who write believe that they are
cool when they write long descriptions of what they do with their
girlfriends and want to swap "hot warez". We are not interested in
any illegal activities (including swapping copyrighted software)
and if we sent you the sourcecodes of the demo we would in a short
while have tons of small intros with the effects slightly modified
and we don't want that. You are allowed to rip the music but if you
use it somewhere, don't forget to credit the original composer.
The source code of our modplayer (GUSPLAY)for the Gravis Ultrasound
is released and downloadable on various BBS's and Internet. The
sourcecodes of our other musicroutines are unreleased and will
remain so. Use GOLDPLAY or DSMI instead.

Please understand that I can't afford to answer even a few of your
letters if I have to pay for it myself. I can't even afford to have
my own phone. The best and most secure way to get a quick answer if
you have questions about Cascada is to send a message in the
Creativity Demo Net (CDN). There are CDN nodes in many European
countries and in America, Canada, Australia...

      All of you who have  written to me and haven't got an  answer back;
I'm terribly sorry. Probably I haven't had time to answer your
letter right away but put it on my table (which always is in a
mess). Sometime when I clean up over here (or hire Anticimex to do
it) I might find your letter and send you a reply back, who knows.
I'm sorry not to be able to help you get started with demo coding
but if I would write answers to all the specific programming
questions I've got since the release of Cronologia (1991) I would
have to take a few years off. I hope that you can somehow respect
      this.

                                     ÍÍÍ
This demo is the first CDS production. CDS? Yep, Cascada has been
under (a well needed) re-organization for a while and we ended up
with the normal commercial/non-commercial problem. We don't want to
leave the scene yet but we can't let down our commercial projects.
Therefor, we formed CDS, the Cascada Demo Section. There is right
now not a valid memberlist of CDS but in the next demo you can get
all the information you might want. For the moment CDS consist only
of old Cascada members. However, CDS could use a few more coders to
concentrate on demos alone. If YOU can code demos like this one and
would like to join CDS, don't hesitate to contact us! TODAY.

CDS and Cascada will also need a few distribution sites abroad. If
you are a sysop with a fairly big board with good reputation and
you would like it to be a Cascada site, call one of our boards and
request the file CDS_SITE.FRM, fill it out, and send it back!
