nice idea but the rendering feels too artificial for my taste
added on the 2021-05-15 01:50:09 by psenough psenough
the artificiality has a certain charm imo, and the snake itself has very interesting geometry

it's just the little things that are off and simplified that give the slightly cleap look: the ground is very fractal-noisy and has way too much specular, and the light source looks like just a point light (or a small area light) just outside the frame

water seemed like a shadow at first glance, missing something to make it more watery looking

I think it would look better without the mushrooms in the back

Thanks guys, as always: I appreciate the quantitative feedback :)

I should add, that this time, the prod is mainly about showing the technique I developed. The scales of the snake are mapped evenly onto a quadratic bezier curve. From a tech point of view, the mushrooms make sense: The dots are mapped using inverse spherical fibonacci mapping - which is another popular way of mapping dots evenly onto a nontrivial object (sphere in this case).

Well made, really nice texture! The mushrooms could be skipped though :)
