there's just something about how the visuals & audio work together here that makes this tons better than what you'd expect from something placed 8th in the compo, seriously good work

Yeah, I agree with Juippi actually. This intro has the trappings of a simple concept about to be executed spectacularly, but quickly dials its ambition down as if afraid of taking itself seriously. At least that's my impression. Still decent though.
