A bit slow-paced but still good

Not the best demo that SD has made. Lacks some sort of "wow factor" to me, at least. Also, is H.R. Giger even credited in the demo/nfo?
Nice demo but I couldn't get of the feeling of recyclation of code. How about doing something 100% different from your previous stuff Aeg? But anyway, some effects, like e.g. this pond looked very nice. I look forward to see this again.

Exactly what you would expect from a sds demo (déjà vu galore, one cool new trick, dreadful soundtrack, ugly colour textures). Love the mapping bug in the screenshot. ;)

A lot of codercolors and stuff, but still very nice.

I liked it. A bit low framerate at times, and one radial plasma too many, but overall nice. Also pretty good soundtrack.

somewhat confusing design but otherwise excellent.

Some nice stuff in there, but lacks in the design department :)

the gfx did really benefit from bigscreen+webstream, watching it now they look rather bad. some new cool effects, alot of recycle as one would expect..

what holloman said
but I'm still impressed

Awsome stuff. The lakes are really cool, so is the rest ;)

Was great feeling cause it's so special and cool, the tune feat well this SF world, between Giger and Commander Blood. Rulez!

recycling.. doesnt deserve thumb up or down. just neutral "huoh"
added on the 2007-04-08 21:45:02 by uns3en_ uns3en_
and "love all positive comment about cool effects" ... "huoh" to all newbies who havent seen these effects recycled ... :)

and ps. i hate that tunnel texture
added on the 2007-04-08 21:49:36 by uns3en_ uns3en_
Well, the thumb is only for the first music and some of the effects. Maybe AEK should kick sonic's ass to make some more tracks. Recycling musics is still shocking...
rulez added on the 2007-04-08 22:26:26 by Exin Exin

ok, I could not spot the new effect this time. But thumb up for releasing a decent demo on C64!

Not much improvement for Smash but still nice to watch.
rulez added on the 2007-04-09 01:31:47 by Skate Skate
Yep, that tunnel texture is exactly the same as in all other SD demos. And it doesn't look good..

Usual SD demo. There are still some effects seen before in previous SD demos. From the new stuff I like the plasma floor, the trail dots (ok maybe a bit slow but), and the little animation references to other demos. And the music rocks!
rulez added on the 2007-04-09 15:48:49 by Optimus Optimus
what a crappy demo. still best in wolrds 10 / 10!!!1

and I believe that same old tunneltexture is taken from Reflex('s Mathematica?)

i really like the soundtrack.

rulez added on the 2007-04-11 11:23:43 by pasy pasy
I have to join the chorus complaining about the tunnel texture... and maybe a bit more consistent colorscheme would've been nice as well. But it's still quite cool overall.

Very nice demo again!

Recycled & buggy code, wired gfx, unpolished, unfinished.
Sucks.

Ok, there was 2 or 3 effects I liked in this demo but the static H.R. Giger-scans pisses me off to no end.
sucks added on the 2007-04-12 10:52:12 by El Topo El Topo
Hmm, I don't really like it. Pretty ugly, nothing I didn't already see in other SDS demos and the music was not that good either.
added on the 2007-04-12 14:53:31 by StingRay StingRay
Ok but lengthy parts prevent me from thumping up...
dancing girls, music, graphics, effects (plasmas, rubber bands, 3Ds buildings, ...)

Maybe some parts are to long.. should have been 2nd.. great prod.

oops TBL whale inside :)
rulez added on the 2007-04-14 22:52:14 by magic magic
This should've been 4th, seriously. Saying that this is in any way better than the Oxyron demo is just ignorant.

I recall liking this at the compo. Was a bit unfinished tho.

other than the vector-animation copies at the start and end, and the ground/sky texture movement in the screenshot and factory scenes, there's nothing new or interesting here. the 2nd tune is once again reused from triage 5. recycling is good for the environment, not for demos.

For the shouts to Spaceballs and TBL plus the raytracer.

Some cool parts... Still way too long and quite boring.
added on the 2007-04-16 15:40:06 by malmix malmix
I give a thumb for the SOTA & tbl references plus the twister, but the rest was almost all recycled stuff... and that damned texture from Mathematica should be banned by now methinks...
rulez added on the 2007-04-16 19:21:42 by edhellon edhellon
Hempest: Yes, sure, we definetly need to rip a 16x16 Pixel Texture from a Reflex demo...
But as a matter of fact, this is one of the only textures thats fit for suchs effects, i tried a lot of other textures in the last x years, but for those effects you need some textures like this so you can see the tunnel or what else.

I am not much into C64 scene happenings, but as a standalone demo I liked its atmosphere quite much

I dislike how little attention seems to have been paid to polishing most of these scenes. Visual atrifacts, poor colour choices, etc etc. However, I find a lot of Smash Designs work to be really inventive in the sense of how they combine together effects to produce unusual visuals, and this demo is an excellent demonstration of their approach.
rulez added on the 2017-03-31 16:19:43 by introspec introspec
This could have been so good. The effect in the screenshot has so much potential but sorta falls flat because of the tiling error. There's a glaring spelling error not even a minute into the demo. Just so many small things I feel could have been better, but for some reason, aren't.
