Nice music but otherwise not really my cup of tea.

music is not my cup of tea but the visuals and the dynamic of the demo are very nice. also nice to see a new prod by/with ASD

Probably one of the best ASD demos of all time.

Ah...

Resolution selection appears to be broken, runs at desktop resolution making it too slow on 4k displays.

one of the best asd demos ever made. music and visuals rocked
rulez added on the 2018-02-05 09:01:08 by waffle waffle
Kolano: do you mean that you select a resolution (lets say 1920x1080) but the full screen resolution is always at 4k ?

This could have been great, but the lack of pacing in the visuals ruins it a bit for me. Somehow it seems to find itself a bit in the final scene again, though.

at last an ASD demo I can get behind!
rulez added on the 2018-02-05 15:16:33 by djh0ffman djh0ffman
I'm with Kusma here. Looks really good but pacing & progression seems completely random.
Same as Sdw. YouTube doesn't really do any justice.

CreateFile2 is W8 and above; not sure why it's needed here.

Seems too random, dunno if that makes it have no drive or punch that would make me dig it. Or maybe I expected much more, and got disappointed when it did not RAPE MY FACE with awesomeness as usually ASD does.
Like the music though :)

nice visuals, meh music

Nice visuals, some great ideas but the demo seems rushed. I had an impression that it seems to be in a hurry. Kinda: „ we don’t have all day, you see. Let’s win here and get somehere else” feeling.

very cool again! ASD FTW

Some words about this demo:

We started work in November, after agreeing with Merlucin to do something together for once. The music style changed a few times but the visuals came first. It does feel like it is in a hurry and that is my fault as I set a goal of under 3 minutes when I believed that there is very little content for an extra minute (that is never the case - once you have the main ingredients of the demo, only then you can decide how long it is going to be).
The demo has 2 parts, ABA - the B starts with the buddha. With hindsight, I should have expanded on that part a bit more with more static cameras.
Nevertheless, I'm happy that people seem to like it; it was the kind of demo I wanted to do for a long time. Maybe next time do the music first!

(or rather, the time after next time :-))

Congratz ASD just managed to release atleast 1 demo a year for another year since 2001 ! :D Where did all those 160mb go btw ?
All in all a nice niche demo again! keep it up untill another big one if the demo gods allow it! ;)

I really like this look of b/w occasionally exploding in colors! That's something I couldn't do, but secretly tried several times before ending up going angry to bed at 3 am with some garbage on the screen.

It is a little "VJ random" at times with and not always hitting with surgical precision. Also slight distance between music and visuals to be felt here.

I was intrigued by the inner nature of this demo and the religious references but they were too weak. The hidden symbolism that can be found between frames is easily forgotten by the low visuals / music coherence.

I had the pleasure of watching it in a real PC, but that was also ephimeral. Too much space wasted for a demo that could fit in ten times less space with little effort.

xmix by asd, omg. i vote for 25 minute directors cut.

The music fits perfectly.
Nice job, on the aesthetics.

The glitch stuff and raw pixel gaseous particles are remarkable.
This demo is brilliant, and spectacular.

Negative aspect seems to be the size here.
163mb is an issue for less than 3 minutes content, compared to the 21Mb of the first classified demo. Well...em. :/
The ending seems a little bit abrupt.

Love the idea that's a win32 binary, using the same resources as a x64 application.
rulez added on the 2018-02-08 16:58:35 by JaK JaK
I... what? can you elaborate on that win32/x64 thing please?

The inspiration (and reason why this demo is so large) was to make something running on a single shader for all movement of all particles in the entire demo, using a function of time, curly noise and a sequence of raw images (stored as pngs, they take up some space).

Where's that kinect.dll? Is it from OpenCV?

I'm also missing kinect20.dll for this one.

Navis: so it's a Win32 binary? Just pointed that fact, because's funny to run a Doom2016 x64 alike stuff, on the same GPU used by a win32 binary doing basically the same thing on the same machine and OS. I'm not sure about that, but's the external impression it gives me, and it's strange and funny: Like, moving entire game technology minimum requeriments to win7 64 is not so mandatory after all: This production demonstrates it.

About the size: the fact that almost all of ASD productions use sequenced PNG as animation-transition-fx-data is ok for me, as long as they're not end up in a 128 ZIP, but, anyway, it's a ASD demo, so it's always the worth. so it's ok.

* PNG is totally necessary as it does not destroy data based on perceptual-compression-thing
added on the 2018-02-12 12:06:18 by JaK JaK
Hm, the demo is definitely a x64 executable, and the image sequence definitely a jpg one :-)
Of course it is very easy to make it win32 if I want to, in fact I don't remember the exact reason why it isn't but there must be one..
added on the 2018-02-12 12:35:26 by Navis Navis
Navis: that's the spirit! LoL!
added on the 2018-02-12 12:41:16 by JaK JaK
Navis: finally checked the binary! at home :( it's x64! sorry my big mistake.

I understand the demo needs all that data from images, plus it's interesting using openCV in a demo. A new approach. Are you planning already some stuff on VJ?
This is a great demo. really.

There is no explanation about running out of time and ending the demo in a rush when we had three entire months before the party... ok, of course there is an explanation but I neglect its existence.

The problem of this demo is that as everything is contained in the same shader, so syncing it was extremely painful.

I also broke Navis' mind when I forced the music BPM to be 130 instead of 120 and he had to recalculate all these little numbers. So this one is probably the only ASD demo that you will see at 130 bpm in your entire lifespan.

Also, every time you see a white color fade in the demo, add two entire days of Navis' life to the equation. He had to compile the shader in his mind and, after vomiting, write three tiny lines in a specific place with his little keyboard.
