Sorry for that framerate, otherwise pretty amazing.

This was developed on too fast DosBOX, sorry

Yeah, apparently not so fast on a real P133, but just right for DOSBox consumption. ;)

This seems to have some sophisticated effects, though it was too slow for the compo machine. Thankfully, I have a P3 to try it.

since I'm the last who could complain about framerates ;-) a big (motivation) thumb for DOS prod, nice visuals ! Maybe next you try PCem as vintage computer emu instead of dosbox ...

Seconding PCem where you can actually get a sensible idea of a framerate on Target HW. Well, I like everything about it except the compo framerate really

There's some ok parts there, but it was a pain to watch on the big screen at 2 fps or something. Dosbox-X is another choice if you want a bit better estimate of how it'll run on a real machine.

pretty nice water\particles effect but yees, 3d stuff is a bit slow.
on the other hand, great music! :)

Even though the framerate was very poor in many parts (sorry to hear it was an emulation issue with development), it was fairly obvious that it would have been really impressive with just a slightly faster machine.

was nice :)

Some cool looking effects but also parts that basically look like they'd be bugging heavily. Not sure why it's so slow. The triangle tunnel is a slideshow but surely a shaded grid expander would be fairly trivial to get running at a half acceptable speed. Also the adapt logo distortion seems simple but is still incredibly slow. Thumb up for the nice bits and the bangin' soundtrack.

Just a bug report for now, didn't manage to watch it yet.

On my P2 350 with an S3 Virge graphics card, it failed to start, saying it couldn't set the correct video mode. Tried with and without univbe. My own VBE code reports these video modes as being available: http://nuclear.nsupdate.info/tmp/vbeinfo/s3virge_univbe.txt

On my second dos box, which is a P200 MMX with a VBE3-capable riva128 it progresses further but hangs with the last message being: "Adding parameter textureFile with value: envtex3.pcx".

Hope this helps.

How much memory is needed? 32 megs doesn't seem to suffice or then there's something else wrong on my P166.

@Nuclear: on S3, try to use UniVBE 6.53 or S3VBE20 instead, afaik demo requires 320x200 16bpp mode to be present.
in case of latter issue, try increase FILES in config.sys or run demo from fresh copy, or get a bit more memory (128mb works fine, didn't tested with less amount)

wbc\\bz7: indeed with 6.53 i get many more video modes. Why would 6.7 give me fewer modes? Anyway, now the demo tries to start on the S3 machine, but hangs after the splash screen scrolls upwards...

@Nuclear: hmmm, looks like lack of RAM or overclocking/overall system stability problems (but i'll bet for first as demo runs fine on my p200mmx)
SDD 6.7 is a bit messed up, so it supports more chipsets but probably drops proper support for older ones.

Some good ideas here, but painfully slow.
added on the 2017-08-14 19:37:07 by Frequent Frequent
additional quirk: seems that demo writes logs to stdout/stderr without checking videomode, and some cards that support BIOS text print functions in VESA modes (i.e. NVidia) cause all this stuff to appear on screen, making loading painfully slow (so run "demo.exe > nul" to avoid this :)

Well, what to say...

The demo is not coherent.
It has some very cool routines such as metaballs or that flower object coming out of the water (beautiful effect) and some fugly black'n green metaballs like one. Again water effect and again another one. And, all of a sudden, a great 3D mountain-like effect.
The gfx (fonts) are horrible, thb.

The music... Mixed feelings as well. A mix of Skaven/FC and The Prodigy made me I did not know what should I switch on.

And if it is an, oldskool demo, use 8MB or - at most - 16MB. Otherwise forget it, cause you are cheating!!!
