Can't argue with a new Amiga diskmag, especially when it's tastefully presented like here.

Nice idea to make a "review only" mag. Tune is nice and the presentation of the mag is fine too but there's still room for improvement as just switching the pages without any (very simple) effect is not what I expect from a Slummy prod, nag nag. :)

Anyway, good stuff, looking forward to the next issue! :)

Thanks for surprising me with a new diskmag released in 2016! A first issue and it is already so good, there is nothing I would criticize. Controls are smooth, font is legible and music is very good. I enjoyed reading the reviews and I am curious to watch some of the reviewed productions myself. Good job!

just read it from start to end. i'm a big fan of review, especially if they are done by people who can write and who know what they're talking about. this is clearly the case here. the interface was great, the music too. only the font was, while very cool in itself, a bit hard to read for a longer period. i am really looking forward for more!

Nice to see a new mag in 2016, A+ for the effort.

This is a really great idea. A diskmag with only reviews of Amiga prods!
So we need to make a lot of new Amiga prods to make sure that the next issue will come soon!

Exactly what dipswitch said, including the font bit.

So this is basically Nordic Scene Review for Amiga prodz judging from the screenshot? Cool! If I ever manage to get a working Amiga setup again I'll have to check it out. :-)

Yeah, finally we can read some cool amiga demoscene reviews. Excellent idea and good execution (elegant, clean design). Good job!

Nice read and I think it's great you keep it short and focus on prods.

I could read through it in ~1 hour which is just right I think. Interface works great. I guessed everything without hitting any wrong keys.

Now we just need more amiga prods to fill up the next issue.

Excellent start!
I'd prefer a higher resolution screen and scrolling text.

- not a single mention of polish scene
- 1991ish sounding music vs. modern looking visuals
+ great idea
+ well written texts
+ awesome looking menu

Now for some nitpicking from a delicate aesthetician. I know The Bastard loves to keep things simple and usually I totally love it, but this time I'm not quite sure… The thing looks more like a text viewer than a diskmagazine to me; I'd love to see some panels, cliparts or columns (done in a modern way).

Few months ago I was talking to someone about making an alltime top of Amiga demos. With a huge amount of people voting. We all know that Pouet charts are not too reliable since people vote mostly for new productions. Perhaps it would be a good idea to make it in Irregular Review?

@stingray: Watch out or you'll get 1994-style endless vector wipes and sinus-bouncing on everything!

@dipswitch, yzi: I sort of agree on the issues with readability as well. We'll probably try out some other font variations later on. As for high-res text I'm hoping to avoid that as I really like the low-res aesthetic.

@radiant: We _loved_ NSR and it's definitely the main inspiration here. However, we're doing a couple of things differently by not feeling like a bitchy chat-room (yet, at least) and by being alive in 2016. :)

@Jazzcat: Thanks! Structured feedback deserves a proper response:

- We want the contents of the mag to feel _fresh_ and will therefore only review stuff from a limited time range. This issue is focused on June - August (which was actually a bit more than I wanted..) Maybe the polish scene shouldn't have taken summer holidays. :)

- You are correct in that it looks more like a text viewer, that was the purpose of it. :)
The mag "engine" and look will change at some point in time (actually, I hope it'll change quite often!). However, I can guarantee you that I won't be doing anything with panels or cliparts. IR is about the text and reading experience.

- Any project or idea based on the words "a huge amount of people" is a no-go. Our focus is on having something that's low-maintenance and requires very little effort to release other than the text itself. This is required in order to keep it fun and make sure we do more issues.
We'd definitely love for someone else to do a chart on their own though! (Although I personally would be more interested in a "top of the last 10 years"-thing to service the _living_ scene and avoid the worst retrowankery).

Hopefully this doesn't come off as too harsh. We've actually considered most of the things you mentioned at some point, before deciding to go with the concept that's here now. We'll see how it works out going forward (some stuff will definitely change).
+ OCS diskmag
+ here I was thinking one of my factual comments might be perceived as negative on Pouet, but your review tone makes me a saint :)
- (as with a few diskmags and understandable) lack of interesting you know interviews, articles, demoparty stories, etc
- I must say far from the production value and feeling from reading a diskmag from 1990 (but I understand it's the first issue)

If you post to Pouet for peers to vote, then go vote as you review. Put your thumb where your balls are. Ehm. So to speak. :)
