At last after a 4 year sleep Greece is back into the demoscene. ASD did a wonderful job with this one (first accelerated demo ever from a greek demogroup).

The transition between the necklace zoom and the wobbly envmapped landscape is breathtaking.. We expect more from you guys..

ASD.. we love you

At last I can say "expect the unexpected from greek demo scene!" This demo was the greatest I've seen all these years. Keep up the good work (good ideas - fantasy also).
I must thank you for taking part to this competition...

I think the keywords here are Creativity and Fluidity.

A long demo with a great variety of effects. It flows well, though, and I liked the transitions a lot.

Good stuff!

Very nice colors, clever and surprising transitions, some very cool graphics. Also, the music theme, although not an original composition, is very well chosen and fits the demo perfectly. Overall, a high quality production from ASD. Watch out for these guys! :-)

The Greek scene is still banging its drums! :-)

very very very bad colours and annoying music and it lacked an "esc"-option.

oh btw, only like the 1/3 of the demo had nice transitions the rest was just smalled together.

VERY COOL demo from A.S.D. The first and far the best greek accelerated demo. It sets the new standards in the Greek scene. Congratulations to NaviS, Amoivikos and even Nuclear for his cool cage ;) Great job guys, keep up the good work. (Ante kai syntoma ellada lompa!!)

it's a nice demo, there are just a few things that don't let me give it a 'rulez' - like guestionable choices of colors/textures, weird lounge-rock or whatever soundtrack and a few 3d scenes that really don't belong here. it's a mishmash prod, but it has quite a few good ideas. keep up! 8}

I don't think that there could be a better come back for the greek demo scene. It was an absolute work of art.It is far the best greek demo ever made and it can proudly compete and represent us in European and even wolrd standards.I have never seen such perfect bonding of motion, picture as well as Fantasia. It kind of reminds me Walt Disney's Fantasia. These kids could really help in making black and white's introduction video.

erm, i see nothing really innovative in ripping music personally :) (at least my internet searches for 'warlock' by caravan returned some old english group or something)

Well,
All those things about being absolutely awesome, year's best demo...
It's a nice prod, good ambience, some very cool transitions, but it has also many things (like some ugly colors/textures/3D Scenes) which really don't fit.
My overall impression was good, it's a nice work, but I won't give it a rulez anyway.

Oh, and about those new Greek standards... I hope it won't include ripped music :-> (don't take this seriously)

Let's see what they can do in the future, it's a really good start. I expect Greek scene not to be conformist :)

I'm sick of this ripped music commments. There was an original score for the demo but due to an e-mail accident it never managed to reach the coder. So stop blaming A.S.D.

zafos: the bighead guy (From which game is this? I forgot...) without nickname just answers to Raoul_Duke who said innovative music (What??? Innovative? But it isn't done by ASD ;)

Hey,. it's funny what happened with when I logged in on pouet and clicked on this prod. Lot's of greek people joined pouet just for voting thumbs up for this prod! Lol :)

At least it maybe good for the grscene, I see a lot of enthousiasm,. I don't know and don't think that much that it is nationalistic reasons,. it is just that the greek people got really enthousiastic because after a sleeping greek scene there comes at once a very good greek production,.. out of silence. Don't misunderstand them,. just enthousiasm I guess,.. ok a little exagerrated, but anyways...

I won't vote yet,. I have seen it just once in the partyplace and don't remember that much for various reasons,. I will download the demo and see it for the 2nd and 3rd time and then I will decide what to vote..
added on the 2001-09-06 01:51:48 by Optimus Optimus
An awesome demo, and probably all those ppl claiming it's the best greek one so far are right... But all gr-sceners out there should already be thinking how to create something better, not just worsip ASD... The best is yet to come :)
rulez added on the 2001-09-06 03:25:03 by GimmeSNW GimmeSNW
At the beginning I said to myself after seeing all this mess "See it and vote it like you never knew that it is a new Greek demo" just to cut off my enthousiasm. I really really don't know if this didn't worked in this case, but I feel that I liked it too! I like mostly how the music fits and syncs with the scenes and I liked also several clever design elements (Ohh,. I love these rectangles that create images/diferrent screens and morph and demorph to show which scenes are coming!)

It is a big surprise that a greek group managed to design such a demo when the greek scene seemed so inactive for years!

Thumbs up, especially for the crazy enthousiasm that it brought in the greek scene ;)

Is it that I still can't manage my enthousiasm for voting this up? I am just wondering,.. u never know,. I told to myself to just see the demo as it wasn't a greek production after years of silence, but I am not sure if it work,... but anyways really good prod from a dead greek scene...
rulez added on the 2001-09-06 04:11:06 by Optimus Optimus
This prod is very good. A bunch of code/effects in place, long demo, nice synchro. It suffers a bit of Chanka Style(tm) (lack of artist and coder colors), but the code makes for it. A definite thumbs up and a surprising and fresh production.

They credited the music (and that doesn't seem to be a problem when VIP2 and State of Mind are still chart toppers). Keep it up!

Respect

PS: For the crybabies (macaw), Alt+F4 does the job, although i don't see any reason for exiting the demo.

Ah, i almost forgot...

The jingles of messenger and icq kept me looking about 10 mins for a message...

Probably somebody forgot to turn them off while recording the mp3 ;))))))

But it was puzzling (until i saw the demo for a 2nd time), haha, nice touch! original (even if unwanted)

optimus i am bonk. BONK from PC Kid. (pc engine, hudson soft)

(and btw ripped music imo nullifies all artistic pretention.)

It was a good demo, some smart things there, (like, never let a screen be dead, always show some activity) some unsurprising ones, got also a nice oldschool pc touch with those reworked effects like the mountain. Globally enjoyable, but doesn't reach this year's toprank.

I know how the greek scene must feel, now you probably have some enthusiasm back and a good example to follow, but don't overly praise this demo, please look also at was has been released this year.
added on the 2001-09-06 08:50:37 by _-_-__ _-_-__
This demo isn't worth a 10 MB download, exspecially now with scene.org down. A collection of unimpressive effects.

It simply does not rock, although I like this kind of demos. Perhaps the quality of the mp3 is not good enough, it sounds flat, maybe because its very old music. Perhaps the music is too fast for the effects shown. I am very glad that ripped music does not automatically make great demos.

Hey!When i say innovative music i mean that it's not the same "techno" and electronic sounds we have been used to by most demos...So what the fuck is wrong with you people????Why judging them for bullshit such as ripped music and shit????Why don't you sit back and enjoy this beautiful demo...The same happened with vip2....Are you stupid???This demo is one of my favorites and it will be,due to the feelings it evokes every time i watch it....

This will be my last comment...As human beings we are all different and i think that we will never agree on this'demo's quality...rmn says the colours are horrible, whereas i adore them...Anyway,this demo is really great and stands out from all others...great design, jazzy style, nice transitions, great gfx, allo in allo a demo which you can watch and have a really good time...pure feelings and relaxation....

I liked this demo a LOT, except two things: ASD guys should REALLY optimize the 3d accel code... my miserable V3000 does like 4 or 6 fps on a 466MHz celeron... but on the video wall, it rocked!

And, how about minimising the size a bit ? Tnx :p

Apart from these two flaws, the demo had Style; a thing that's missing from several world-class entries.

innovative music? for me it sounds more like 60's or 70's.

not using techno is not innovative. have a look at the pouet charts: how many techno or d'n'b tunes are there? very few! techno was very dominant in the demo scene for a very long time, but that's over now. of course, "heaven seven" has some kind of electronic sound, but compared to "moral hard candy" that's something VERY different (i love both demos).

not using techno isn't innovative, it's common. the techno war is long over, and music won. ok, if you try to get high quality music in 16-1000 kbytes, it will sound a bit electronic in most cases.

(i am not talking about music compos here...)
added on the 2001-09-07 11:33:54 by chaos chaos
Well it sounds to you like this because it comes from the decade you mention!! And perhaps it's kind of innovative cause you really don't hear such kind of music in demos. Anyway i will get bore again and mention that this was not the music which was planned to accompany the demo. Let's put an end to this topic!!!
added on the 2001-09-07 11:59:22 by zafos zafos
everything has already been said. sometimes the colour palettes and asd logos look ugly/trashy.

i liked the effect with that thing in the cage and the picturezoomer with the cave afterwards.

the music sounds like the doors btw, probably same era.

anyway, looking forward for more greek prods :)
added on the 2001-09-07 14:49:03 by robotriot robotriot
I must agree with chaos^fr on this one.

Perhaps it's an ok demo, but not the best I've seen. Not the best this year as someone said above.

I just wonder though, what the hell have they done with the soundtrack? re-recorded it through the soundcard? If you listen closely, there are sounds that aren't supposed to be in there. And specially NOT the icq "uhoh!" at 2:50 ;) Nice work with that, guys..

Anyway. Imho, ripping music suxx. Ok, vip2 and state of mind are the exceptions from this, but it doesn't change anything. If ASD would have had a musician that did this music, perhaps then I'd be impressed. But no, not when stealing some song (and recording it through the soundcard with system sounds on ;) ) Since it's ripped, you can't call the music innovative. Ok, it might not be the best example, but all musicians don't make techno. Listen to moby and the soundtrack from arte, for example.. ASD, get yourself a good musician.

And yes, perhaps it's a good demo, but in that case it has surely been overrated. It's not fantastic. If this is the comeback of Greece or whatever, =) it's nice to see. But the demo itself, as chaos said, it just doesn't rock. There's nothing special about it, although it has some good design and such..

Or perhaps it's harder to make good demos today with all the fancy hardware.. and 64k intros impress me more.

But in any case, would be nice to see more from ASD, they might make a demo that really rocks next time =)

(I write too much =) )

Oh what the hell is goin'on...Chaos:90% of the demos i have seen feature electronic music...only few(like state of mind or live evil)feature other kinds of music... don't have anything against electro music, besides d'n'b and jungle are my favourites....but you have to admit that the selection of the song is very good..at least i like it very much...as far as ican understand we have different views on the subject and we will never agree...Anyway,i don't see anything bad about "ripped music".The guys do not have a musician and used something commercial...but they credited the band...As i mentioned i love jungle music and there are some songs for which i want to make a demo...if this is my inspiration, what's your problem? Please, set aside this kind of staff,we are sceners,we are artists and when we do a demo we do it for our pleasure..we don't want to earn anything by using ripped music..we just implement our inspiration...it's so simple....

Raoul out
added on the 2001-09-07 22:11:03 by mulambo mulambo
Raoul is absolutely right. I couldn't agree more with him. Nobody is earning something here like money so where is the problem with ripped music. Besides they didn't want to do it, they were forced to use another soundtrack.
added on the 2001-09-08 03:35:12 by zafos zafos
maybe one problem is a copyright issue? - and then there is the competition issue (profesional musician might have more time/money to their stuff than amateurs).

Guys, sorry to break this up for you, but this is really turning into a flame with every message. I think everyone has gotten the point up to now. *If* there is anything to continue in this conversation, the BBS is a more appropriate place to do it.
added on the 2001-09-08 17:43:49 by moT moT
let me have the last word ;)
i don't really see the problem in using music from a commercial artist and building a demo around it. what counts in the end is the total experience and that is what will cause people to vote for your production. rasmus says that commercial artists might have more time and cash, but that's like saying that musicians can never reach a certain level because of those two factors (while i know they can!). i've heard songs by scene musicians which i prefer above a lot of commercial songs from wellknown artists.
anyway, enough of this bullshit for now.

the point is just that everyone should be allowed to do what they want.. it's for fun in the end.

My opinion (almost unbiased from all the arguing going on):

It's a good demo. It has some nice scenes, hell, I even liked the music (although I almost threw my speakers out of the window when the icq-sound appeared).

BTW; the screenshot is from the ugliest part of the demo. Not exactly good advertisement if you ask me....

Calling this the "best demo ever" is quite an over statement.

The visuals are pretty nice, although the choice of colors hurts the overall quality, methinks.

Some of the scenes last for too long, it makes the demo a bit slow paced.

The music, well, it's bad, it's ripped, it's poorly sampled and the "oh-oh" from ICQ is shameful.
added on the 2002-01-06 21:31:00 by sin sin
Zafos up there, made a funny comment:

I'm sick of this ripped music commments. There was an original score for the demo but due to an e-mail accident it never managed to reach the coder. So stop blaming A.S.D.

Ok, then who the fuck should we blame? Was it the coder's mail server the one that packed and released the demo, presented it to a party and uploaded it to the major demoscene servers? Sorry, but I do not think so, so let's stop blaming some poor mail server, shall we?. The fact that some technical problem prevented anyone from getting the final material to assemble the demo doesn't excuse anybody from using ripped stuff. Full stop.

Talented people are aplenty in a party and you can ask for a score for your demo if you are lacking one.

It didn't run any decent fps on my hw but it looked really, really nice. Wish I could watch it on a better computer some time. The colors were somehow really well picked and the design was original and fresh. Some textures were a bit ugly IMO but that was only a minor flaw.
rulez added on the 2002-03-08 20:43:22 by DiamonDie DiamonDie
SiN, I started writting a score for that demo, since there was word that the demo was scoreless. The problem wasn't about the file reaching the coder or graphician, but the talking between me and the gfx. I sent him some e-mail asking him what is it going to be with the demo, and if they still want the tune. The e-mail never reached the graphician, I didn't get a server reply so I presumed that since the graphician didn't respond, they probably didn't want a tune from me.

Anyhow, that's old news by now.. I joined ASD, and our next production (to be releasted at ReACT 2002) will feature an original score.

Pretty good even if some pieces are not well rounded (that's what mac calls "the Chanka Style", but I don't think Chanka were good enough to even create a style!).

After this one, Edge Of Forever seems a very consistent improvement, and makes me look forward next year's ASD production.

Well. you just have to be mentally sick fellow if you don't like this prod. Beautiful effects, smooth animation and god-damn-good-looking art.

Lacks the maturity of their later releases, but still great. Psychedelic is a good term, I tranced out near the end :)

good graphics but ripped music doeasn't seems to fit right in my opinion. Also the music should be made by themselfs...

what happened to amusic's work for this demo?
rulez added on the 2005-10-16 16:49:13 by anesthetic anesthetic
this demo was made in 2001, a few months before amusic joined ASD.

The legend has it that a score was written for the demo - but because of some misunderstandings and the strict scheduling, I had to resort to music from one of my vinyl records...

The prog rockers of the scene :) Music is by caravan, not by ASD as mentioned in their credits.

whoa! watched this for the first time just 5 minutes ago, and... whoa! the direction was a bit tacky and the cameras didn't work as smooth as they could've, but what the hell, for a '00 demo this surpassed the average by a million miles. the soundtrack rocked the cheese out from my socks with it's undeniably groovy vibes and jazzy influences. nothing more to say, except bigup! :) soundtrack available anywhere?

The tune is awesome. Great composing but those things hardly fit to a demo most times.
Piggie because of the unbearable colour scheme :/

pretty sorry, but this demo was just terrible for me. music got on my nerves, colours were ugly as shit..... I had to turn it off.

jazzy guitars, plenty of alphablending and an occassional im beep. yeah, it´s different but that doesn´t imply that it is good

Just a 10 year old note here.. the music that initially was destined for this one, ended up (reworked) into Evolution of Vision =)

Seems to be quite old and the first Windows demo by ASD, but actually it's great, already has that ASD feel in it.

Hehe, I was thinking "wow this is an exceptionally good soundtrack, but it sounds awfully familiar". Well, Caravan it was :), but props for making a demo to a non scene-related music. As for the demo itself, it's a hit and miss. The first about minute and a half looked very very good, but I don't like the model based 3D scenes very much at all. Thankfully there are other stuff here as well, and most of it looks really good. Light thumb for this one.

nice to see that even ASD did come a long way in terms of quality :D visuals are quite meh mainly because of the colors. but nice music choice! so piggie.
I have been looking for the soundtrack for years, just found it...

I love the energy, the flow, the sync, the cameras, the 1:34, the zoomer, the music - especially the doors vibes, the 3d cave, the 2d art, the end scroller and all the rest in this <3! You kick A-S-s-D ;), keep on going with these good style demoes!
