I have to watch this again properly, but I enjoyed it very much, especially the final part.

The downside is a "4k-ish sounding" music.

thumb goes for the scene in the screenshot, I hated the rest

The waltzing pair was a neat touch indeed :). However the music and the colors were rather crude and drag this prod into the pig's pen.

Yes, the scene shown in the screenshot made it for me, too. Soundtrack is crap.

the intro scene was pretty 'meh' but it got more decent over time until SUDDENLY:
cubes, people dancing.
Thumb for that one as well =)
The music was alright for me as well.

A lot of work must have been put into this...

The beginning is a little average, but the rest of the demo is very much to my liking. The music fits imho.

My favourite scene is of course the "waltzing pair". :)

Glad people like the effort we put in it. Note that the music isn't the final mixdown yet. Coplans machine broke down, and Psitron who took over had an emergency in the family, so I had to use a work-in-progress version. There's a ton of other stuff I hope to fix in the final version too.

me likes, great show on the bigscreen ;-)

The dancing scene was really a highlight :)

Please fix the first half of the demo if you make a final. The music was strange and the effects were good but design was awful. The whole 3D mandelcubeish-fractal part is pretty cool including the fitting music.
Piggy for now...

What I saw on the stream was screaming "we ran out of time". But what is done is really good (especially the beginning if I recall correct).
I hope to see a final version!

I think what I most noticed was the work on transitions by the way, which were very good at first, and no so good after...

The "city" scene give me dizziness ;)

out of curiousity i ran the demo with low raymarch quality and it looks much nicer that way because i get less of the moire noise. i like the waltz-idea but the music was just... not really good :(

Mostly white screen on ATI, apparent no escape support, window seems to be ontop and it crashed my computer hard after a while.

With better music, non-linear camera paths and some direction, this could be a lot more interesting.

The fractal scene with the dancing couple rules.

Great second part. First was ok too.

Bad direction. But the dancing thing is awesome.

Looked fantastic on the stream, less fantastic on my computer. An additional iteration of polish would've done wonders (the thing that irked me the most was the linear interpolation on the camera in the end), but a nice amount of effort here still.

i agree to this.
what about a kinda free flight mode in the last part? :)

Media sentry: have you been reading my mind? After the compo I already started working on that as a easter egg for the final version, mostly to prove that the effect is not precalced in any way. But calling one effect outside the whole demo-engine is very nontrivial. On the other hand, I come home and my TFT screen refuses to start, after 8 months of slowly dying (taking longer and longer to warm up and display abstract art for a while). So I'm stuck on the laptop, which means ATI compatibility has to wait until I have a new screen. In the meantime, I might as well work on that viewer, since I'm a bit tired of scripting...

Very nice fractals. Kinda noisy though but still, nice.
The mix of genres didn't happen so well in the soundtrack.
colors and sound made me not like this. also the overall composition is kinda off ...
nice

I liked the fractals and the dancing scene (second half of the demo) but the beginning of the demo and the music were so-so...

Ups for Seven's work (dancing included), the rest kills the fun for me...

Right when the lines effect starts, the music plays some really bad notes (for my ear). Ouch. Luckily it didn't repeat itself. Code starts ok, the lines effect and its followers looked good. the raymarching look REALLY good to me. Could have used a lot more direction overall. Still a thumb up.

The code looks decent, but I find the demo pretty ugly.

Each part is good, but they are not linked properly.
rulez added on the 2012-01-01 12:34:33 by frag frag
My personal winner of the pack. Really loved the idea to use fractals as some kind of stage. And the overall baroque look is just beautiful.

non linear camera movements could improve this a lot.
a bit boring... but anyways a thumb from my side

Nice... Keep up that direction
rulez added on the 2012-01-02 12:51:53 by reload reload
Cool, but feels unfinished. Camera paths (please make them smooth!) and transitions need more work.
added on the 2012-01-03 09:44:41 by LLB LLB
Would have been twice as good with some sort of spline interpolation for the camera. But the fraktal part is quite inspiration. I should try this one day...

First demo i have felt an urge to "watch again in realtime" after seeing it on youtube - in years. Love the raymarched fractal, hate the rest.

And the ATI-fixed party version is ready:
http://www.fulcrum-demo.org/filemanager/active?fid=122

Could someone else with an ATI/AMD card test this out and report if it works and looks identical as on nvidia (or the youtube link) before I update the download link? I've had to work around a nasty driver-bug (I think), and I feel the fix is rather fragile, so it would be nice to be sure nothing else is broken on other cards.

There's also a rather obvious easter-egg added :)

BTW, thanks for the feedback, especially Duckers. It's a bit disappointing if you spend a lot of time optimizing code to run smoothly on midrange cards, when many people just watch the youtube video.

Also, the camera paths actually use cubic interpolation of quaternions (squad), although I agree several turns are too sharp. Yet another thing to fix in the final version...

Nice architectural looking fractal use =)
The waltz scene is quite cheesy, but sort of fits logically well
