I liked this one alot, the only problem I saw, was the low framerate on the compo system great demo, and nice fractals :)

Like previously said, but it's nice to see Guille is back and to see that kaneel can release a music :D

great soundtrack

rez> the nfo says nystep, not guille
Good and impressive, probably from code and math point of view!
Still, rules are rules, this is not a 4K :)
Coded by nystep and music by kaneel... Very nice intro. I was glad to help with this.

Rules of course ( sorry rez )

Dunno. Lately I am kinda getting depressed when I watch certain demos. This one seems to have that effect for some reason.

Awesome code, but with proper soundtrack this could have been really great. The music really was not my piece of cake.

Too slow, don't like the soundtrack..

Okay, I hadnt understood the party version was 4K.
You did it, that's what counts.
Thumb up. This is absolutely awesome, 4K generating such detailed and complicated mandelbulb patterns.
The party version is about 5-10 fps on my 295, which is slow, but seems pixel perfect, the slowest-nicest final is 15 fps which is acceptable, and the fastest is 60 fps but pixellated. Quite a difference!
However, demos are what they are, experimentation whith hardware to produce things not seen before.
If this needs a monster card to work, it's its right.
Thanks for producing this.
You show what can be done with state of the art hardware and very high skill.
I remember someone on a forum that said mandelbulb realtime was not even close for many years.
Demoscene is there to deliver.

Praise the mighty GPU king!

Imho underrated as hell, this is f*cking great show !

Aside from that, music was not my taste, but hey.

Theres a huge quality difference even between the party version (which is pixelperfect) and the slowest-nicest final.
The party version is the most beautiful and impressive mandelbulb I have seen interactive or realtime.
1680*1050.

So yes, yes, it's 5-10 fps, but it's state of the art, it's cutting edge, it's what you've never seen. It's what demos are.

Should be noted that my 295 is not sli now(triscreen).
So, could be a 260+.

Had you only done the fast version, it would have been another of the successful attempts at realtime mandelbulb, but with massive quality compromises.
Instead, now, as soon as you will run the party version on hardware that delivers solid 30 to 60 fps...
It will be regarded as a milestone imho.

Well done.

Praise the shaders. Praise the code.
Not quite final when being nvidia only due to glsl errors... (and 4k version just crashes straight away)
gShaderReplacer fix: (can't raise a vec2 with a float)
Code:<Application Name="whispers_final.exe" Name0="whispers_final_FullResSlow.exe"> <StringReplacer Src="(n,g)),w)" Dst="(n,g)),vec2(w))"/> </Application>

But nice 'bulb, seems like some z block optimization (haven't digged into the minified shader), but still it should be able to render the edgers correctly (especially when not 4k..)

mandelbulb :D
rulez added on the 2011-04-30 22:02:50 by xpansive xpansive
you can replace
Code:while(C++<40.

by
Code:while(C++<88.

It then raymarchs artifact free at a 20% framerate expense in both of the final versions.. Those block pixels on the edges are damn expensive to raymarch correctly! ;>

The party version is using http://www.opengl.org/registry/specs/EXT/separate_shader_objects.txt which makes the setup code significantly lower to get a shader up and running.. But indeed, it wasn't implemented yet in AMD drivers the last time i checked..

For the GLSL error i'm a bit surprised, it seems tolerated on NV to raise a vec to a scalar, and i have (ab)used it, i'm sure there are places where i raise vec3s and vec4s to scalars but it seems tolerated now by the AMD GLSL compiler (?).. Anyway have to plug back this ATI card, i'll see better.

Thanks for all the comments. :)

Nice

yeah, 88 is mostly enough, except for the tunnel part. Guess that should be part of the slow'n'niece version. At 88 it goes 15-22 fps here on 6870.

I doubt that ugly defined (but indeed 1k/4k useable because of that) EXT extension will ever make it outside nvidia, and btw, with 4052 bytes it's not needed ;)
pow is pow(gentype, gentype), so I think it's correct that they have to be same dimension.

Maybe we can see this in shadertoy?
saw the video version, was cool

hope i upgrade my gpu soon so that i can have a real opinion

ok. I mean, raymarched 3d fractals usually look good, but not terribly original.

Dear noby,

I wish people actually had an epiphany about it, but meanwhile, a lot of crappy sawish tunes have been submitted and it seems that SONG made people DANCING, then, they got drunk, lost their minds, got stupid and couldn't notice that a sweet tune is sweet.

But hey, it's ok.
kaneel: not sure if i got you entirely correctly but... i guess we're in some sort of agreement :D
