I don't really follow the technical stuff, so this is like magic to me!

Nice one again. The novelty is kind of gone now after the previous two breakpoints, but it remains impressive and is a nice demo in its own right. I liked the music a lot.

although you tightened the platform restrictions a bit, this is imho not as impressive as "craft". but i really love the audio!

the novelty value sure as dropped, but I still thought it was the best you have done so far :)

Another nice prod on homebrew hardware

Wicked rubber band and greets sections. "Doom" part was nice also. Another great demo.

Really enjoyed on the stream something like
-"I had to downclock the CPU."
and someone on the audience goes "WHAT?"

Really cool. Much better than last year's demo.

I expected something new for BP2010, the novelty wore off with the first one.

technically still neat, but third time I found this show boring and predictable. Pig

Yes, how about a more powerful MCU?

Solid work with some nice candy in it (and I would appreciate it if there would be a copro as suggested =)

Great and thoroughly impressive stuff, no doubt, but I'm kinda glad that this didn't win since there really isn't that much big of a difference between this and "Craft". Not big enough to justify 1st place at Breakpoint. I'm hoping that this style of wild demo making lives on and that someone manages to do something even cooler than Linus' stuff :).

this is more impressive and better than craft in general, but like many've said here already, the novelty is gone.

I think it is getting a bit unoriginal here too, although as someone who works with the bare metal at work I still find it pretty sweet :).

But consider changing the style though, the hardware you are using is way more capable than what you produce. Of course, it's my opinion in the end, I am not SilverSlimer or Paniq and I can't (try & fail to) change you :D.

Impresive!
I'm still laughing as remembering that scream from someone of the public, when describing the Mhz speed adjustment,... "WHAAAT!!?"

Not as good as Craft, but still cool. And I know about the horrors of PAL signal generation - even though I did it on an 80 MHz SX. Still a fucking nightmare, even compared to NTSC.

lft is the king of microcontrollers! Congrats on finishing at the podium for three straight years. :)
Good stuff, loved the greetings part for example, nice design.

The demo as a whole is very impressive given 8.5kb ROM and 1kb RAM + having to generate video and audio on the fly.
rulez added on the 2010-04-07 23:11:47 by Sdw Sdw
Nice but it feels like I've seen this twice already.
I loved this one too. I don't know the tech stuff but the demo is quite enjoyful alone.

It's taken a while for it to sink in exactly *how* hardcore this is, but whenever I have an idea for a raster effect on the Spectrum and think "nah, it'll take weeks of effort just to get the timings right" - well, that's exactly what lft has done here in every single scene, or just to get a static pixel on the screen for that matter. Pretty damn mindblowing.
