Enough for a thumbie, but a little bit on the weird side :)

Thanks for the comments! Oh, and a humble request for anyone who wants to watch this (in an emulator or otherwise): Please use the new SID chip; the music doesn't really work on the old one.

Blended Kefrens bars, yay. And the music is to die for - and I mean that. Literally. No seriously. ... the horror ... the horror.

One of the pleasant surprises of the compo from the "one man army". I really loved the postpostpostmodern (or whatever) style, plus those Kefrensbars, oh yeah!

Weird, boring, nothing special in my opinion. No sux tho.

I agree with "weird for me" comments. But it has some nice contents as well.

Cool
As a (former) one-man-army myself, I sympathize with this kind of demo effort, but it doesn't cloud my judgment, in so far that this could have been a lot better with some more hands involved. The music is more erratic than intriguing and some of the gfx are pretty awkward. Still, it's the best PD demo so far and small demo outfits are just as needed as the big ones. :)

tomaes, I agree with everything you wrote, except about the music. What do you feel is erratic? The syncopation? The noise? The instruments?

I'm not a very experienced coder, nor a graphician, but I can assure you that after composing for 17 years there is nothing unintentional about my compositions in themselves. The instruments could still probably do with some tweaking of course; I am still in the process of learning how. Please explain what is wrong.

Some cool stuff in there!

radiantx, I gave the demo another spin to listen to the music more closely and I think, yes, the instruments are at fault. They just sound unsophisticated and mushy to me (drums + that weird saw tooth(?) bass-lead). A distinguished mix (distinct frequency bands for certain instruments, you can't do much in the stereo field, since there is none :) often help, f.e. your Cruel Angel Thesis cover is doing a much better job at that.

And as for the composition: Whatever you try to do here (prog? chaoscore?), imho you don't get your point across very well. This type of music demands a high level of precision and balance, in combination with ingenuity, and I realize that this is hard to do and won't come easy to most people making music.

Although it does not compare very well, I think automatas/Goto80 is working very well in that regard. It sounds so effortless and has some cute melody hooks between all the madness. :)

tomaes: Thank you for the extended feedback. The tune was mainly inspired by Anekdoten - Nucleus, but I'm sure you can hear some Meshuggah influences as well. (Though of course I never reach the levels of either of them.)

music is very original and conveys atmosphere great. effects are ok and the graphic is good. all in all i like to see non-standart demos like this.
