Actually demo was done for Nintendo DS Lite + MK-5 card and no$GBA as emulator.
Support of other devices will be after party. Please write your config if demo runs or not.
Windows version uses original ROM for data.

kusma: actually we don't - we made it just for fun, and we're actually not at all in that ds homebrew scene.
the project was done with the neoflash mk5 and we don't know a shit about dldi or whatever another stuff.
let's meet each other at boozembly and talk about that. =)

however, we're going to make a final version with the fixed win32 port.

ton: actually, I meant to ask the people who had tried different flashcarts from what I had. The NDS does have a DLDI section in it, so I think you did at least that part right.

Unfortunately, I'm not as boozembly this year, since I sucked corporate dick and went to siggraph instead.

this was just made of win - a good joke turned into a great demo. the animations and models are superb. it also totally killed the two demos that followed it in the compo.. not because they were bad, because they weren't, but because this was so fresh ;)

rulez added on the 2009-08-18 11:06:10 by gloom gloom
Works on my GnM now! Thanks!

So, some feed-back after having seen i on hardware:
+ It loads very quickly.
+ HW-antialaising is well used.
+ Some glitches from the win32-player I last tested (texture holes, at least)
- Some of the camera movements suffers really a lot from the lack of HW subpixel precision.
- The demo freeze for 0.5 seconds here every 10-12 seconds or so here. Streaming music from disk in a little too big blocks for my (slow!) card?
- You seem to over-run the fillrate a bit in the paint-the-city-RGB part, which leads to tearing/glitches in the paint.

Anyway, well worth a thumb. It's the best DS demo I've seen so far.
rulez added on the 2009-08-18 11:24:41 by kusma kusma
This was awesome!
rulez added on the 2009-08-18 12:32:29 by okkie okkie
2kusma: demo preloads only 400 mp3 frames (about 11 secs) of music and the first scene, then it stream all content from rom (mp3 frame at a time and a full scene 10 frames before it actually needed). maximum bandwidth used (for scene with wall paintings) is about 600 kbps, in other parts no more than 200 kbps. now i see that is also too high for old cards... i can reassemble demo data for about 100-150 kbps, i think.

but better we made another prod keeping this experience in mind. =)

ps: bloody DS rendering engine and its 48-line buffer didn't works for us in "paint-the-city-RGB" part for sure. dynamic textures is not for DS, or they should be very-very fast.
added on the 2009-08-18 13:35:36 by upi upi
upi: The DS is low on fillrate, that's for sure. Don't spend more time improving this demo, make another one :)

I'd like to point out that my card is dog slow, so I'm probably to blame myself for having sucky hardware.

added on the 2009-08-25 02:10:25 by xyz xyz
So, i got an acekard 2i card, and fix the stuff. The demo uses nitrofs, but as WinterMute from devkitPro says: "The library works just fine on slot1 cards - unfortunately most current menus don't implement the argv required.", and that is the bug! Demo didn't find its data, silly.

Now demo searches through card folders for the rom file. Please, guys with M3, R4, ets, can you test this fix and, if it works, we can update final version?

So full of fun!
On the technical side, I don't know the platform, but this looks solid.

Is there any way to get this to run on an DSi WITHOUT a flash cart? The DSi can run ROMs from SD card. I have used the MemoryPit exploit, installed TwilightMenu++ and Unlauncher, but neither will run it.

Launching from Unlauncher I get:

"
Searching for demo ROM...
Not found (Emulator?)
Try to use appropriate DLDI patch..
"..

Launching it from TwilightMenu++ shows "Searching for demo ROM". Demo is in root folder. TwilightMenu++ has lots of settings, maybe there's something that does the trick?

Or should I just get a flash cart for running demos on the DSi?

Hello! I got contacted to make hardware captures of some demos after I got my DS capture card. I submitted the first one I made for this one, and I’ll keep making more and submitting them.
