FYI, change 65 to 63 to reverse the movement.

nitro2k01: Sorry I had to scramble a bit the "TOTORO" smiley when graying out the distant stars. I had to insert the &63 before the closing parenthesis.

A starfield in 256b in javascript... no idea if that's an accomplishment or not but I'm gonna assume it is. :)

Cool as the 256B script. But the name - only "Stars" would be worse.

p01, why intros from 256b.htm Competition are absent on pouet (don't tell me: "So add them.")? Would be nice to see masterpieces like Metaballs here also.

tribão: Things always seem easier once you've done them so I couldn't really tell. But it's not straight forward, and AFAIK this is the first 3D starfield in JS in 256b.

Pirx: I'm working on a way to add the 100+ entries of the 256b.htm Competition(s) on Pouët.

Very cool. To watch in Opera, hit Ctrl+F3 (source), cut and paste the
Code:<body id=B text=snow bgColor=0>
bit so it's after the script tags then hit Apply Changes.

kenet: on se refait pas :p

dword: which browser/platform ? Was there any JS error ? It works for me in Op9, IE6+, FF1.5+ on win XP, Ubuntu and Wii.

wow! it's fast :D

my dear Poï have you seen my chiptune.com's starfield ? now you can move into the stars by moving mouse's cursor and change the speed by using mousewheel :)
rulez added on the 2007-02-26 17:48:40 by rez rez
Oh, I missed the mousewheel thingy l'ami ricorez. To catch the mouseWheel events in both FF and OP, do something like:
Code:function mousewheel(event) { var wheel = (event.wheelDelta||event.detail)<0?-1:1; // todo: some funky shit } window.addEventListener( 'DOMMouseScroll', onmousewheel=mousewheel, false );

209 bytes for the effect alone.

<body id=B text=tan bgColor=0><script>setInterval("m='';c=Math.cos;for(u=65;u;)m+='<p style=position:absolute;top:'+(50+(z=399/(9+(--U+u--&63)))*c(u*9))+'%;left:'+(50+z*c(u))+'%>·';B.innerHTML=m",U=9)</script>

Pretty smooth I must say, great work for platform and size. And I'm surprised at how simple the code really is :).
