hm, this prod was full of images with lousy jpeg compression, non-tile:ing textures and so on.. it could have been good since i like demos with alot of art in it, but jpeg compression really destroys the feeling. i mean, just check the "shadow" on the object in the ending of this demo, its an ugly texture with tons of compression. i didnt like this at all.

as always : a generic haujobbdemo. not bad, not impressive either. i like the music and the gfx are good as allways.
but there are a lot haujobb demos which exactly look the same and i'm sure i've seen this before. :)

btw: if you start it in windowed mode the window titel says: "mosaik" !!!!!!!

More chrome spike-blobs and Visualice art, but the music and gfx are very good, without question. Could've done without the extended vocal samples. The blob-over-land-pic could've been longer; the "feel the high" part shorter. For better quality pics, they could've made PNGs out the B/W JPGs, or shrunk down their 3D object files a bit - over 200k each for some! Finally, it deserved a real ending, even just a still pic. Anyway, I'll thumb it up since it doesn't deserve those thumbs down. :)

as i said, this could have been good if they have showed some respect to the graphician by not destroying his pics with really lousy jpeg compression.

no one seems to like this because it's made by haujobb and it has lots of "typical visualice" graphics and models, but i think it's still a very nice demo with great graphics, models and music.

And those low quality jpegs are probably because of the size limit, and maybe they'll release a high quality version some day.
rulez added on the 2001-12-29 20:17:20 by dodke dodke
As said already, this is a normal haujobb-demo. You get what you expect. Nice spiky 3d-objects and so on. Too bad the jpeg compression show through :(
I like the music very much. I could've been better without the rap-part, though. Those female vocals are nice.

Overall a very nice and beautiful demo.
rulez added on the 2001-12-29 20:21:47 by teel teel
it looks nice enough (as usual), but I think it's time for some innovation. all these visualice/hjb demos look so damned similar (art, moments, are there more? I don't remember). no real effects, just some random scenes... the same as before, the same, the same.

I'm really bored by this.

Allright demo and all, just seen better from haujobb.
I feel like having seen it 1000 times, it's just a typical visualice-demo. He improves his style in every demo I think, but everything looks and feels too similar.

Awesome! I must agree, it's a typical visualice-style demo but that's how I like 'em =]

The music is beautiful, the design is great, the graphics are stunning (as always).

But what the hell is wrong with the jpeg compression ? It's 20mbs unpacked and they have to compress their stuff that much ? Kinda strange ;]

Is it possible for the haujobb guys to release a full-quality version ?

Keep up the nice work.
rulez added on the 2001-12-29 21:52:45 by zelkor zelkor
jpeg compression ruins an otherwise wonderful production. I mean, there is so much nice graphics in this demo and they look just horrible. The textures suffer one of the same as well. The spider-thingy shaddow in the spotlight would look so real damn it... As phoenix said, use PNG! It's lossless, it's free and it's better.

As for the vocals, male vocals need a few touches here and there, female vocals are splendid.

Really liked the design in this one. Please, fix the jpeg problem in the final version!

there's something funny about this situation. I know all Visualice's demos are the same. I know that I'll see some spike-balls, some green/blue-colored pieces of art, some broken typography, all synched to some chilled electro/ambient/trip-hop music. I've seen them a dozen times before, and I'll see them again, and I know that repetition is bad and wrong and ugly. and all that can't stop me from loving this prod and all I've seen before it. is there something wrong with me?.. 8]
after all, all Dali's pictures are the same, right?.. and that doesn't stop people from adoring him for the genius he is..
rulez added on the 2001-12-30 14:36:37 by bhead bhead
I agree with Bhead. Elements offers nothing new (you might even say it's a remix of Mosaik and Moments); but let's not overlook the fact that, in terms of code, audio and visual presentation, this surpasses almost all of this year's demo releases.

an 11 megabyte download. not worth it at all. how the hell is that possible? bloat. anyone? at least they could have used rar, to make it a bit smaller. but no.
the intro is great, and so is the music through the whole demo.
except for the vocals. the rap-vocals are totally misplaced, and doesn't belong in this track at all. how is it possible to make such great music, and not being able to hear that?
and the lyrics for the female vocals are totally bad. "take a smoke! I feel hii-iiigh, baby". come on! except for the drug-propaganda (which also suck, since winners don't use drugs and you all know the drill), it could have been lyrics for an eurodance track.
the vocals in the soundtrack, and the _huge_ download (and filesize once unpacked) makes this a definite 'sucks'.
what about making a decent data-file packer?

Even though i really respect the work from haujobb, it's a very boring demo in my opinion too. Nothing new or special is shown.
I am an oldscool scener and love demos since the end of the 80's. Surely the style of demos and the hardware power of the machines on which are they produced have changed but thats ok and we have seen many fantastic demos from the past till now. But the results of this party, especially the haujobb demo seems to be a step to nowhere.
It is possible, to make superb 3d demos, just think of doomsday or square from pulse and many, many more.
Where are the funny demos, and the interessting demos, where are the demo groups, which first wish was to make a new and unbeatable demo ?
Sometimes i think i will reenter the scene and code demos with scrollers and good looking 2d effects, it could be interessting to see what is possible now with these powerfull machines.

(excuse my bad english)

I guess you're message is "stop making demos of your own style", visualice.

I know he has thought about that many times, I hope he won't. Still fact is that it's a fucking big waste that he is spending time in something like demos.

jpeg is an easy solution to fight sizelimits.

the problem is not visualice's style, it's the enormous size of this production. the demo from dialogos was 27 megs unpacked, this one is 20.1 megs. it's just too big.
at that size, this should have been the all singing, all dancing demo, but sadly it ain't. you can't expect people to be happy when they download something so big, and find out it's almost the same as the last big demo they downloaded. to justify a size like that, you'd damn better come up with something groundbreaking. and when you don't, people will be disappointed about the content, because they have seen it before.
why can't haujobb pack their data-files better? that would have been an even better way to fight sizelimits.
added on the 2001-12-31 00:39:20 by lug00ber lug00ber
i really like the way haujobb can merge 2d and 3d together. the vocals didnt fit in the demo though :(

lug00ber, your idea of packing datafiles better as a solution to get the downloadsize smaller is very stupid..

the datafiles were packed when you downloaded it. The real thing is that it takes more of your expensive harddiskspace.. but as you dislike it so much you probably already deleted it so there really was not any problem with the size for you. Or if there was it your suggestion of packing datafiles better would not have helped.

damn'it. a packed 11 megabytes of boring stuff. when i see the winning intro and demo of TP2k1 it definetly looks to me that the legendary innovation in the demoscene is cold dead. i still have to check the other entries as my ultimate hope is that these results were due to name voting... but i'm afraid it's not since as far as i remember FR's production was quite anonymous...

lug00ber, explain me how would that datafilepacker have made the .zip file smaller (as the .zip is the file which you download)

well ofcourse with better algorithm than .zip but half a megabyte doesn't mean that much..

Thumbs down for a 1st demo just doesnt seem right does it? okay for those who dislike haujobb, but im not the one. image quality was poor, but in a way this was pretty cool. i like this haujobb style. the music is the good thing about the demo. Ok, i agree with the above posters about visualice's skills, but...

- Virgill is getting better again, but this demo soundtrack has the common problem of "going nowhere" and the lyrics simply don't fit. Please do more masterpieces like "I'm free" and stay away from the senselessness of your "hire" works (must I say wonderhere? :)

- There is absolutely NO evolution in style from all the older haujobb demos. It's nothing more than a beautiful, but absolutely senseless show of 3d objects with layers above. No single good hand-coded effect, just again the artsy form of a boring 3d flyby - and no difference to art or mosaik or moments or whatever.

So, dear Haujobb guys, if you want to get a thumb up from me again, release a SECOND demo, ok?

I can only agree to kb. the same good hjb could re-release art with some switched parameters for the (weird weird) objects and stuff.
concerning the filesize: when doing a 20mb demo you can the same good wait for divx 10.0 and make a video of the same size. so far for the objective comments. subjective I have to say, that I dislike the way those demos are colored (too psychedelic for me) and some diversity would surely not be bad. just an idea.

what's your problem guys with filesize ?
60GB HD costs ~200E, and broadband connection are really affordable today ... are you all living in Middle-Age ?

if something please you does it has do be in 64kb to get your attention ? I don't think so.

of course those 20mb should have been used another way, but I rather like the way haujobb used them!

Very boring demo like all productions by Haujobb. Only feelings it rises are feelings of hate due to wasting time on this. And kb_ had a good point - this is still the same stuff Haujobb has done for ages, seemingly the very same code even.. We could took some 2 year old demo from then and switch places and nobody wouldn't even notice it..

trace: "better" is a really subjective decision. I think i can name about just as many people liking my works better than virgill's than you can vice versa. My comment on the tune was my own subjective opinion, a thing everyone is entitled to have, so stop dissing around senselessly, ok?

Anyway, Virgill, next time keep those tunes on your HD and let people chose better songs of you for their demos, ok? :)

I don’t knw half of you but just let me tell you something : you attitude really sucks ! !
This demo is really nice graphically .
The design has really evolved scnice the last ones : only coders can’t see the difference .
Visualice is really the most productive and skilled graphician on the scene.
I know it seems that there is no différence , but have a closer look and you will see :
The style is darker and more organic compared to Moments and Art.
I m sorry for all the guys i know ( for instance sagacity who i respect ) but you are really lame !

In response to Nytrik I should point out that I too respect Visualice and Cynic and Virgill and other people who were involved. I'm just do disappointed to see them recycling ideas. I think that if they set their minds to it they can really do some REALLY impressive, innovative work and this just seems like a waste, of some sort.

That's mostly why I didn't like this demo. If it was from some unknown group I probably wouuld've said it was great, though. Which DOES make me lame, actually, so Nytrik has a point. :)

= gfx + object + good music for each part
no coherency between parts except the colors and the same object
and the very good job of Visualice is killed by the jpg bad compress, use PNG instead it's free and better
i like a lot the faked shadow wich is in fact a jpg texture at the end :-)
finally boring, nothing happens, no history, no storyline, few synchros, we expected more for a +20Mb prod
and put all files in free in a stupid dir is lame (sorry i'm too much oldscener perhaps but i prefer the finished things)
so, an OK prod, nothing more.

I dont think Visualice should stop making demos or even change his style, but some kind of different approach could be... refreshing :) He makes nice pictures... why not make those alive? And also he makes nice 3d scenes, why not animate those? So maybe he could change he's technique, not style. (yep... now blame us for making similar demos all over again ;)

Someone compared Visualice to Dali (as doing similar pictures all his life), well that person should go to the nearest library and stydy Dali some more.

The soundtrack is awesome, and actually quite wasted on this demo. It's yet another 3d show with pretty clipart from the Visualice librairy.

Don't get me wrong, I think Visualice has a pretty nifty style, but it's still the same old horse: organic object, enivroment map, odd background, repeat ad nauseum. Blergh.

Like memon said, it wouldn't hurt if he severely altered his techniques and combined his pictures and 3d work.

Side note: at first glance it would seem that a LOT of the stuff in the data dir is unused. I would call that sloppy.

Well, already very much said about this demo. effects 'n stuff are average, but the soundtrack kicks! beside the new black maiden demo 'retrograde' one of the best demo soundtracks in the last time.

Music is totally awesome, probably one of Virgill's bests.
Gfx is... well... what do you expect from Visualice? :) Anyway, he's got his own style (not much ppl can say the same), so it looks that way.
Code is code, what else do you want from a typical art demo? Face it, you may try Kasparov-quality code and scenes, but it won't simply fit!

So thumbs up for the best HJB demo since a loooong time, even if you hate me.

about everything was said about this demo already. i dislike the vocal part in the music which is otherwise quite ok. but it's yet another one of the visualice-style demos, which gets pretty boring after some time. do something different, hjb guys! also i think size limits for demos should be below 20mb. where's the challenge then for coders when making a demo?
added on the 2002-02-13 11:41:46 by robotriot robotriot
erally enjoyed the 2d+3d images produced in this one. On its own the 3d is nothing special, but with the really nice graphics the two of them is powerfull...the music is good, but the "rap" part should have gone during editing the tune because that sucks so hard you cant belive it. either do or dont do.
seen better from haujobb but its still worth a few looks and definately a download.

I share the same opinion as Phoenix, Nytrik and iblis on this one. Two things I'd like to reiterate, though:

- Virgill & Tasium: congratulations on the gorgeous soundtrack (amazing loop), but the cliched rapper should've been left out unless he had something better to say...

- The whole timing of the demo was kinda offkey. The first 30 seconds were amazing, but after that, it soon becomes drawn-out flyby+clipart... albeit with a beautiful color pallette :)
Thumbs up!

Love this demo. It just has the mood. But please, boozing is just not a good enough topic, be more innovative next time :) The music is the best part of this demo. Ambient+rap+vocals work out fine, who says that the vocals don't fit? But Virgill you should write some rhymes for your rapper if he could not find just a single one. It sounds like he's just freestyling (and he's damn drunken tripping stuff...) The girlie is just sweet.

I have to give it a thumbs up... It's a good idea, and if you squint your eyes it looks cool, but very poor execution overall.

Gripes:
far too many ugly JPGs
too many flybys
bad texturemapping (linear map on what could have been an awesome spider-thing?!?! why?)
and get a new rapper - even *I* could do better than that.

All those *.hjb files in the data directory certainly aren't making file size matters better. Please optimize whatever those are, and leave the images alone.

Artifacts = teh lose
rulez added on the 2002-03-13 03:47:16 by laserbeams laserbeams
Ok. Finally after too many delays you can download a final version too either from here or here. Less ugly JPGs, still as many flybys, better texturemapping but still the same rapper. And yes, now "only" 7 megs big so all you modem users can also enjoy the feelhigh.

Much better now! All major artifacts are gone, and it can actually be enjoyed without having to analyse the visuals (as I'm sure we all do, subconsciously).

Very nice, overall. And in a single file, too. Kudos.
i have to agree.. this is what the demo should have looked like when released at the party. (except for the _really_ bad singing in the tune, but you cant get everything, right?)
added on the 2002-03-16 13:19:34 by a_lee_n a_lee_n
why shouldnt they release what they did? it looked perfect on the bigscreen and they also won (tho it wasnt the best demo in the compo;)

And about the singing in the tune.. well.. i think this demo wouldve been *very* booring without that and they managed to piss off hundreads of people with the drug propaganda.. wich is probably the best part of this demo :)

I really (REALLY) liked it, although some image-compression artifacts should have been eliminated to make a better demo, but I don't think they're too much important.

Ok so we have seen it all before, but that's why there is more than just one group. If you like one team's style than get their prods. If you don't like it than don't download it. You can't expect a group to put out something totally different each time. That isn't reasonable. If you want something different look at a different group.

Thanks to Visualices nice, yet a bit blurry (atleast on 1024x768) 2D this demo looks good, but it gets boring the second the beautiful 2D scenes end. Chrome is nice, but in this case a bit dull. Saved totally by Timo's art.

I remember when I saw this at TP'01 .... I was so stupid to join the anti-HJB wave ... but afterwards, I have given this, and many other HJB-demos a second chance. Now I have seen the light. I love these production. Yes there is a likeness in their demos, but that doesn't make all HJB-demos the same. I like Visualices design, and hope that he won't change it. HJB produce what they want, and not crowdpleaaaazers.

Nice sync between music an picture too. The end was little disappointing though, I expected more after the nice first 3/4 of the demo. Nice work, keep up the good work.

this is my all-time favourite demo along with "Heaven 7" and the tbl demo "'Astral Blur" . nyway, this is so nice because of the beautiful music and wonderful imagery, its so empty and yet filled with small synchronocity that clings with a very special feeling of a summerday of rainclouds, maybe late evening, some pussy or just depressing loneliness.....special cannabinoid teenage mellow ecstasy, like after the masturbation....peace out
