Welcome in the new unhappy demo from Semilanceata.
Try if you can to watch this on a real CPC+, sounds will be better.

If you try to watch this on emulator, use an old version of WinApe !

BDCIron : fuck you lamer !

Which emu can I use to view this?
WinApe goes ape with this demo... :-/

Use an old version of WinApe, it's the only way to view this demo on over machine than a real CPC+...
added on the 2007-01-31 07:31:54 by Nicky One Nicky One
You can try with the previous WinAPE version : http://www.winape.net/download/WinAPE20A10.zip
At the moment, there's no emulator being able to run the demo properly.Fx requiring some precise timing are fucked up.
Ah yes, that older version works much better.

Never saw a CPC+ demo before but I must say: thumbs up!

Very nice one. I'm not to familiar with CPC+ capabilities compared to the basic CPC though.

Nicky: what's the music format? Some custom mod player?
Does the fullscreen trick work the Atari way? (synchronization, resolutions/frequency switchs each scanline and a VBL full of NOPs to replace with your code, respecting carefully the number of cycles for each instruction)

SEMILANCEATA FOR TEH WINNERS!!!

I rather liked this and it's a good show of CPC+ capabilities, the hardware music chip (great 1st tune, yey Clawz rules anyways), all the pallete fades and flashes synced with it (rather like it and the gfx look amazing with that colors), the hardware sprites for smooth vector balls (though, this part was a bit too long).

Damn, that makes me really wishing to try some shit on the CPC+ though I don't own one but maybe I should try in the emulator.

Just a quick question: Is there a hidden part? When you press escape after the scroller part, during the heart beat, the drive is loading something...
added on the 2007-01-31 20:22:44 by ASiC ASiC
Keops, the mod player was made by Grim, he is much able to answer your question ;)

Video please!!!

CiH> I will make one tomorrow. Now, if we can find and a place to upload it... :)
added on the 2007-02-01 10:26:38 by ASiC ASiC
@Keops: launch your CPC emulator, then type that in the BASIC interpreter :
10 a=&BC00:b=&BD00
20 out a,2:out b,50
30 out a,1:out b,50
40 out a,7:out b,35
50 out a,6:out b,35
60 out a,12:out b,&3C
70 mode 1:print "AtariST suxx! :)"
run
And here you have a 32Kb vram fullscreen on your CPC. Now look at your Atari and smile :)
The music in Sappy are .mod converted to a custom format best suited for a 8bit CPU and low RAM usage.

@Asic: After the EndPart (scroller) there's an Outro screen (which is loaded while the heartbeat). About an hidden screen, "I don't know" :)
It would be great to have a video of the demo since a lot of people seems to have a lot of troubles with their poor emulators things :)
I can host the video file too (you just have to upload it to cpcscene's ftp and I will move it to a fast webspace).

@Optimus: forget about doing Plus stuff on emulator. At the moment the Plus emulation is quite bad :(
Press ESC at the endpart, hold down SPACE while the heartbeat is playing and let it when the flatline sound stops to view the hidden part! Sorry Grimmy hehe! :p
added on the 2007-02-01 17:35:15 by ASiC ASiC
Grimmy: I thought the fullscreen thing was much more tricky than that on CPC ;)

70 mode 1:print "AtariST suxx! :)"

That's probably why you Arkos people ripped one of our YM Atari tunes (Virtual Escape demo) to include it in your DTC demo:
http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=20226

No hard feelings, I liked that demo a lot ;)

@Asic: if it's the midres screen (4 colors) with the "in death you can trust" at the bottom, that's the Outro screen. For anything else, I still don't know :)

@Keops: yeah yeah! But your Atari ripped our AY3 first with a poor licensed design by Yamaha :)
Keops: well actually.. viewport scaling is easy on CPC, but things gets harder when you have to deal with hardware scrollers and so on..

Nicky: good one! that Plus prod is awesome! :) but it was a bit too long to watch vector ballz..
added on the 2007-02-01 19:18:42 by norecess norecess
cool design and overall atmosphere! btw, i'd like more distorted and fucked up effects here, than vector balls or other oldschool stuff.
added on the 2007-02-01 21:10:25 by elfh elfh
@Grimmy: Yes, that's screen I was refering to. But I realized that this only works on the emulator and not on the real cpc! That's why the video I recorded ends at the scroller part. Btw, I'm uploading the video to cpcscene right now :)
added on the 2007-02-01 21:49:29 by ASiC ASiC
@ASiC: weird, nobody reported me that part do not work on their (real) Plus and there's no reason it does not (it's a very simple part).
Btw, if you have an old lazy 3 inches floppy drive on your Plus, you may see the screen going red (ReadFail) or Orange (DiscMissing) while the loadings. In both case, you can use the R key to retry the loading or C/ESC to cancel (reset).

We will make more distorted fx next time ! Word ! :)
@Grimmy: I don't have a 3'' drive connected at all (damn belt broke off and I didn't even bothered fixing it). Only a 3.5'' with ABBA switch turned to A. And I found the problem: It's the SYMBiFACE II. When I disconnect it, the outro picture runs properly. There's a bug for you :)

Now I've seen the video, definitely rules. Totally Amiga-like in a nice way :-)

If your old CPC+ burst into flames after using SAPPY, note that you can now use this nice demo on Ape v2.0a12, cos Sappy runs quite fine on it, for now... :-)

Last weekend i saw it on a real CPC+ Too bad the + enhancements are more limited than on a C64...like that sprites thing....the pointer for sprite memory is fixed,...you cannot use memory bankswitching for dma samples...so this demo shows quite something!

Really good demo. The overall design is just great.

Grimmy gives you with this demo the secret to be the best : to be alone :)

Didn´t know the CPC plus until today - it has really amazing specs for a 8 Bit computer.

The production itself seems to be technically very good, but for a thumb up it´s too boring for me.

fucking ace
That rocked, could have cut down on the 3d-sprites a bit perhaps.

cool modern style for such an oldskool computer. way to go :)

I saw this at the Xzentrix. It was really impressive, probably the best thing on the CPC+. A powerfull machine like this could have thousands of quality products, if only more people would code on it :)

Its structural perfection is matched only by its hostility.

I must have seen a different demo.
Sure there are nice graphics, but showing a succession of vector balls objects is not what I would qualify as "excellent or amazing design".

And the whole stuff was reused in Allergy the same year...
