no, the masses demand red cubes!

kindof not-so-goodlooking-flyby in the beginning, but the end gets a lot better. really really really slow on radeon 9000, but then again... who cares about hardware that is slower than the one you got your self? :)

sweet-o :D
found some glitches but i guess i already told Smash so ... :)
rulez added on the 2004-06-28 15:22:59 by Gargaj Gargaj
Very nice intro... first scene is pretty technically impressive to me, the spikeballs scene was nice, there distortion ball thing was good too. Oh... and bump mapping :-D Music is very nice too.

Still a few bugs and glitches tho, i'll look forwards to the final.

Oh yeah, and it needs ps + vs card, if you don't have it theres a video here.

That's some nice shit you've got there!

nice job on the screenshot, guys. =)

mailed bug reports are greatly appreciated, so we can get it all solid for the final.

Damn good stuff. Prettiest shit from FLT I've seen for some time. The street-scene is though a bit slow with my setup.
rulez added on the 2004-06-28 16:15:31 by PinZa PinZa
won't recon, since my gfxcard does not support pixelshaders. that's the topic for the other talk, but i still don't find a point in all those new technologies. guys from mawi and tbl can do much better things without that on pure amiga... screenshots look cute, though.
added on the 2004-06-28 16:42:02 by meCh\bps meCh\bps
oh please people stop moaning about others not coding for your obsolete hardware. Good stuff from fairlight.
rulez added on the 2004-06-28 16:47:43 by Navis Navis
mech: please please please crawl under a rock and die..
slemmy: i won't comment your silly behaviour. mind that i can have and share opinions as you do. i'm not the kid buying new hardware only to buy new after a month.
added on the 2004-06-28 18:46:31 by meCh\bps meCh\bps
ah, well, I might've been a bit harsh there.. what I should have said was probably:
"Oh yes, I absolutely agree with you. I see no point in new technology either, so instead of using a car I always walk when I want to go somewhere..."
New technology is teh futare, sucka!
(even though I'm too lame to use it...)
New technology is teh futare, sucka! (slemmy)/// then, seriously, i fully agree with you. i just wanted to notice that using it without a sense of art can be risky. and it isn't about a flt prod, just a free advice. anyway, that's not the proper place for such a discussion, so eot for me.
added on the 2004-06-28 19:12:28 by meCh\bps meCh\bps
reed's music rules!!!! Well and the intro too, although some scenes were a bit messy and other ones did appear very very dark (almost black screen :P)
Is this useful as your engine test? bye!
VERY good indeed! I f'kin love the music!

Only problem I have is that it looks a bit low res but that happens with most ps or vs stuff I run. Dunno if that's just what happens.

Slemmy: Does that mean you are ditching the Amiga to make PC demos now? Go on!
rulez added on the 2004-06-28 19:34:43 by Shanethewolf Shanethewolf
The scene in the beginning was so fucking horrible.. And as for the rest, a nice tune and some nice stuff, albeit tons slower than it has to be.

So fuck that whole new technology thing you're trying to pull and eat my thumb down for performing at awful framerates.

Come on.. I was watching this on a fucking Radeon 9800 / XP3200+ / 1GB PC3200 machine..

good entertainment.

Plek: Bitch, Radeon 9800 is outdated ages ago....geez :)

And about this intro...real cool beginning with the street.....and then it changes to a standard intro showing rotating "abstract" objects....i think it lacked a little direction, but overtall pretty good.
rulez added on the 2004-06-28 19:46:39 by Zplex Zplex
Yeah I guess that my recently almost-500-euros-worth-of-graphics-adapter is outdated.

added on the 2004-06-28 19:49:05 by superplek superplek
well plek, you could try use a lower mesh resolution, high is for really fast cards. this runs fine for me at radeon 9000 with medium resolution.
added on the 2004-06-28 19:58:25 by pantaloon pantaloon
"really fast cards"

That card is the goddamn fastest piece of shit you could get in most regular hardware stores a few weeks ago.

Good music and nice visuals.

Nice stuff. Sadly the music is screwed up (jumps and skips) even without any other dsound application running...
rulez added on the 2004-06-28 22:54:47 by scamp scamp
yeah well the music is obviously kick-ass, the rest is a bit 'meh'.

Spikeballs!! :)
rulez added on the 2004-06-29 00:02:32 by Vulture Vulture
tried the "medium"-setting. pretty sure it bugged hard though, as most scenes went black for several seconds over and over again (gf4ti4600ultra). the music was okay, the rest was ugly, badly organized and pretty damn dull.
added on the 2004-06-29 00:55:20 by gloom gloom
Ok whoever cut the mpeg: 45% of the mpeg is the loading bar. Loading bars are not spikeballs!
Lighting of first scene is plain bad. But some good effects(specially the spikeballs)
rulez added on the 2004-06-29 03:54:38 by reality3D reality3D
A thumbs up after the first viewing, but it loses its charm after a few watches. The innovative effects are offset by the choppy design. It really begs to be fixed up for a final version.

Whoever made the screenshot, learn to put delays between your anigif frames. It looks like a scene from Paimen. :)

(he he excellent joke Gargaj)

The first one was pretty horrible, but got better later. Unbelieveably slow though, considering that much better looking stuff has run perfectly on this machine (P4/2.4, r9800pro). Reed's music r0x0rs as always.
added on the 2004-06-29 09:59:36 by break break
Err, I meant the first _effect_. The flyby-slideshow-thingy.
added on the 2004-06-29 10:00:19 by break break
The first scene is the ugliest shadow tryout I ever seen. I think Syntonic Dentiforms set a standard of shadows lookout. The second part with spikeballs KICK ASS GOOOOD, but the beginning demoralize ... :( The funnyest thing is that the beginning looked like a Geforce 2 class technology demo ('coz that known the render to texture feature witch produce better performance and lookout :))

Btw. The music and the after of the disaster is deserve my thumb up ! :)

Um. about speed problems. It runs acceptable speed on P3-1300-512mb with a FX5200 (64bit !!!!) . About 10-15 fps :))))))))

expect a MUCH faster final.
added on the 2004-06-29 10:55:42 by smash smash
smash: i suppose that it isn't about code ;). coders have done gr8 work, but, hell, 150.000 polys is a bit 'much'. that's my opinion :). but, if you manage with that, that will be kind of achievement.
added on the 2004-06-29 11:15:18 by meCh\bps meCh\bps
phoenix: hey - that's not necessary a bad thing - that's what made me want to download this intro in the first place. :)

oh gargaj you so crazy

it appeared to be very jumpy on my machine, too bad that 1ghz ain't enough for it. the scenes looked beautiful, even though the whole thing was so damn crippled on here, so it was more or less a slomo/stuttering experience. i sadly couldn't exactly enjoy the musick here -> conclusion: i need to see it on up to date hardware.
added on the 2004-06-29 22:23:38 by dalezr dalezr
i'll thumb (up or DOWN) the final... slow, very bad design, lot of ugly parts...

spikeys for the masses, and yeah, the first scene is slow here too, but the rest rocks
rulez added on the 2004-06-30 00:25:35 by Weyland Yutani Weyland Yutani
Some nice screens, good music. I like it better if you improve the framerate ;) (average machine here, i2.4 FX5600)
After first scene I expected some flyby intro, cause I liked that scene. Other scenes were really nice, but then suddenly intro ends. I was expecting some more stuff, but I think you run out of space. Lets not forget that this is 64k. And reed´s music rocked.
rulez added on the 2004-06-30 07:46:09 by blueflame blueflame
if you're getting stuttering, close down anything that uses the sound card... i had it run stuttery just by having the volume control panel open. Ran fine with it closed.
added on the 2004-07-01 10:56:13 by psonice psonice
Yesterday i wrote a double loop what runs faster on a p2 500 than a p4 2.4ghz. Don't ask me how it possible, but the normal's precalculation of 25000 polys need 5-6 sec. on a p2 and about 30 sec on p4 ! Maybe i create an impossibilator engine ? :)))))
added on the 2004-07-01 11:02:06 by AbcuG! AbcuG!
sounds more like you're generating denormals, infinities or nans, which slows all recent processors to a crawl.
added on the 2004-07-01 21:25:48 by ryg ryg
Was this prod meant to be blocky, or is it just my radeon messing things up? I recall having some other problems with pixel/vertex shaders too. The prod itself is quite ok. Would be better with decent design.

One of the better 64K soundtracks. Visually there were some interesting techniques, but content wasn't imaginative. Some 3D scene followed by some 3D objects that had no connection in either style or theme.
Nice flashings... ok, I'll watch it on my other PC.
